The Bosnian Guitarist
This is the story of internationally acclaimed classical guitarist Almer Imamovic, detailing his musical coming-of-age during the Bosnian War. At 17, Almer was forced to flee from his home through the mountains to the city of Goražde, where he and his father lived under siege for the next four years.
Separated from his family, Almer survived constant bombardment, near starvation, and fighting on the front lines. Between battles Almer ran Goražde’s radio station and played everything from underground parties to UN Officer’s dinners.
Almer’s words highlight the resilience of Bosnian Muslims during the bloodiest European war since World War II. His story explores how the power of music helps conflict refugees survive, thrive, and ultimately heal.
Co-writer Molly Quinlan Artwick is currently writing the manuscript based on dozens of hours of interviews with Almer. If interested in reading their book proposal and sample chapters, please contact her at mollyartwick AT gmail DOT com.
